FIVE KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CHILD SUPPORT 1. Child support is financial assistance paid by one parent to the other to help support their children. 2. Child support is calculated based on the incomes of both parents, the amount of time the child spends with each parent, and any additional medical or educational expenses. 3. The Nebraska Child Support Guidelines dictate how much child support the non-custodial parent should pay. 4. Child support can be modified if there is a material change in circumstances that causes the calculation to change upward or downward by more than 10%. 5. Child support payments can be enforced through wage garnishments, property seizure, or even jail time.
